New Chalet du Lac

We had a great brunch. At first I got a bit of a scare because we arrived quite early (I got the time wrong… my fault) and the place was deserted. Owing to the marketing and fancy images from the website, I had pictures this fancy place… the reality was quite different with beer crates behind a rundown fence just by the entrance… it looked quite trashy… and for a short while I thought to myself “What did I get us into!” We came back later and a queue had formed at the entrance, which was a tad reassuring. The main entrance hall was again empty and unwelcoming but we eventually got directed to a lovely veranda overlooking the park. Sunny yet shaded, it was very pleasant. I later realized that the place hosts a disco night every Saturday until 5am… hence the empty unwelcoming entrance hall. The staff was very friendly. The service efficient and responsive (our lattes came without milk, which was promptly resolved). The brunch offerings were plentiful and very varied. One in our party was vegetarian and she was a bit concerned that she might not have much to eat, but that wasn’t the case at all, there were plenty of vegetarian options to choose from. Everything was tried was good (with the exception of the parmentier, which was subpar… and technically not even a real parmentier) : many salads, all flavorful, many fish options, even entrecôte. Loved the aubergine and roasted pepper dishes. The desserts were excellent, even the chocolate lava cakes, which were actually runny in the centre as they should be. Plenty of fresh fruits (watermelon, melon, strawberries, grapefruit…) and the tarts were all very nice (not filled with pastry cream). So… in a nutshell, after an initial scare owing to the look of the place, we had a great time. I would definitely come back… tip to the owners though… please clean up the entrance, it looks crap! ;) first impressions matter! Don’t welcome guests with beer crates when your website pictures make you out to be all fancy!
At this price point I've not had a better brunch in Paris. Really nice selection of fresh food and a very relaxing atmosphere in the bois de vincennes with plenty of space. Also very kids friendly
