One of the things I love most about Paris is how even a simple lunch can turn into a memorable experience, and that’s exactly what happened at Au Bourguignon du Marais. Tucked away in the lively Marais district, this charming bistro has the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the moment. We visited on a cool afternoon and grabbed a table outside, where we could watch the neighborhood come alive while enjoying the crisp Parisian weather. We started with the French onion soup, and it was exactly the comforting dish we were hoping for. The broth was deeply flavorful from hours of caramelized onions, finished with a generous layer of bubbling melted cheese over toasted bread that held its texture while soaking up every bit of the soup. The standout, however, was the restaurant’s famous Beef Bourguignon. The beef was incredibly tender, practically melting with each bite after being slowly braised in a rich Burgundy wine sauce with mushrooms and bacon. It’s the kind of dish that reminds you why French cuisine has earned its reputation for turning simple ingredients into something extraordinary. We couldn’t leave without trying the escargots, and they certainly didn’t disappoint. They were buttery, garlicky, and perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of herbs. If you’ve been curious about trying escargot for the first time, this is an excellent place to do it. What made the meal even more enjoyable was the service. The staff were genuinely welcoming and attentive, checking in just enough without making us feel rushed. Although it’s a well-known spot that attracts plenty of visitors, it never felt like a tourist trap. It still has the warmth and relaxed feel of a neighborhood bistro. If you find yourself wandering through Le Marais and are in the mood for authentic Burgundian comfort food, I highly recommend stopping here. Order the Beef Bourguignon, start with the onion soup, add the escargots if you can, and enjoy it all from one of the outdoor tables. It’s the kind of Paris lunch you’ll still be thinking about long after you’ve gone home.
Best meal I had in Paris for my 2026 trip. Service was incredible. Waiter hustled his butt off, always having a smile on his face. The food was incredibly good. Amazing onion soup, and beef bourguignon. The creme brûlée was the best I’ve ever had. Definitely will return on my next trip.
We had no reservations, it was raining and we were sans umbrella, they were very busy — and they still took us in. The manager moved an outdoor table for us and I watched him do the same for another larger family. The beef stew was divine, French onion soup was unforgettable, even my kids’ fried chicken was delicious. The hot chocolate was not too sweet. Service was quick and so helpful and kind.

Tucked away in the trendy Marais district, it has a wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. For dessert, the special of the day was a chocolate mousse with strawberry compote, which was light, indulgent, and a perfect balance of richness and freshness. We paired the meal with a classic red wine, which complemented the beef bourguignon beautifully and elevated the entire dining experience. Overall, the food felt like a masterclass in classic French cuisine and was some of the best we had during our trip. Service was friendly and attentive throughout, and the restaurant offers a great mix of indoor and covered outdoor seating with plenty of space, yet still maintains a lively atmosphere. Reservations are recommended as the restaurant fills up quickly even for lunch. 5/5 – Outstanding traditional French food, excellent service, and a lively Marais bistro atmosphere. A must-visit.
