I enjoyed the dinner. We did the pairing wine with land and sea tasting menu. The food was overall very tasty. The chicken was cold and tough. I am glad I tried it. Lots of truffles as you can see in the pictures which I loved 🥰
The good news .... The food was very well-executed and the wine pairings were skillfully chosen. The restaurant's atmosphere is perfect -- a good lively vibe without being too loud to talk. The servers were very pleasant and paced courses well without rushing things. Finally, there were very good vegetarian and/or vegan options that worked well for one in our party. The so-so news .... With one or two exceptions, neither food nor wines were outstanding. They did not compare to other tasting menus I've tried in the past. The bad news .... In several ways, the restaurant is aggressive and/or sneaky in its "upsell" efforts; and simply ungenerous in its pours and portions. Examples. 1. Upon arrival, there was some modest pressure to order a cocktail or glass of Champagne with no prices listed or mentioned; with a glass of B+ Champagne turning out to cost 22 euros despite being only about 8-10 cl (i.e., substandard even for an aperitif). 2. No mention was made of charging for water, and still water -- NOT branded/bottled, possibly just filtered or possibly not -- was charged for almost as much as the sparkling water (also not branded/bottled). 3. Bite sizes for each course and wine pours throughout the evening were the smallest I've ever seen on a tasting menu, despite being priced expensively. Bottom line: Glad to have tried Dessance, but won't be back.
This was my second visit to the restaurant in 3 years. Absolutely amazing. It did not disappoint. Although I think my first time will always be the most special. Be prepared to be wowed. Be prepared to allow yourself to enjoy new flavors and textures. Amazing creativity!.
Outstanding dinner! The dishes were absolutely stunning and perfectly executed. While the wine pairing was expensive and the pours felt too small (plus a language barrier with the sommelier), the food and desserts more than made up for it. A true culinary experience that’s worth the price. Don't miss it!
