Description
Begin your day with a pickup from your guide in Paris. Settle into a comfortable van and relax as you travel through the rolling countryside toward the Marne Valley, the heart of artisan Champagne. At harvest time, the region transforms: pickers move through the rows at first light, tractors carry crates of freshly cut grapes along the vineyard roads, and the whole valley smells of ripe fruit and pressed juice. It is the only moment of the year when you can see Champagne being made, not just tasted.
Your first stop is at a Champagne estate, where several generations of winemaking tradition come together. During the vendange, the estate is at its busiest, and you will experience the cellar while the presses are running and the first juices begin their fermentation. Explore the cellar, fermenting room, and aging cellars with your certified guide, then enjoy a tasting of Champagne cuvées.
Next, travel to Hautvillers, the village where the monk Dom Pérignon perfected the art of sparkling wine. Stroll through its charming flower-lined streets, visit the historic abbey, and soak up the atmosphere of the place where Champagne history was shaped. From the village terraces, look out over slopes dotted with harvest teams at work.
To complete the experience, enjoy a fourth glass of Champagne at a relaxed local venue in Hautvillers: a convivial moment among the vines at their most vibrant. Please note that food is not included but is available for purchase on site.
In the afternoon, travel by van to Reims, the historic city of royal coronations. Visit the magnificent Notre-Dame Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site adorned with Marc Chagall’s stained-glass windows, then enjoy free time to explore the historic center.
