Description

This half-day excursion from Paris offers a relaxed visit to Claude Monet’s home and gardens in Giverny.

Your experience starts at the France Tourisme agency near the Louvre, where you will meet your driver-guide and board an air-conditioned vehicle. En route, you’ll travel through Paris’ western suburbs and along the Normandy motorway while learning about Monet’s life, the origins of Impressionism, and how he transformed Giverny into a renowned artistic site.

Upon arrival in Giverny, you will receive your entrance ticket and proceed directly to Monet’s house and gardens. The pink-walled house is restored to reflect its original 19th-century appearance. Inside, explore the blue sitting-room, pantry and kitchen, the yellow dining-room decorated with Japanese prints, and Monet’s bedroom and private apartments upstairs. Monet lived here for over 40 years and raised eight children.

Step outside to the Clos Normand, a rectangular flower garden designed like a painting, featuring over one hundred varieties of flowers blooming from spring to autumn, including roses, nasturtiums, irises, tulips, and rare plants from East Asia. The garden’s colors and perspectives shift as you walk the paths, as Monet intended.

A small underpass leads to the water garden, where willow trees, bamboo, and a Japanese bridge arch over the lily pond. This garden inspired Monet’s Water Lilies series. Take time to photograph and observe the scenes reflected in his paintings.

You will have free time to explore the house, gardens, and the large gift shop housed in Monet’s former studio, offering books, prints, and souvenirs. After approximately two hours on site, reunite with your driver-guide for the return trip to Paris. You will arrive with a deeper understanding of Monet’s work and the landscapes that influenced it.
