What can I say that hasn't been said already? The atmosphere is magical and the service could not be beat and the food and drink was out of this world. I mean when you've been open in the same spot since 1893, apparently you're doing something right.
Stepping into Maxim’s was like stepping through time, transported back to Belle Epoque and imagining all the famous and interesting people that frequented the establishment 100 years ago. The art nouveau interiors are stunning and the dress code of chic and elegant creates a classy vibe that can make any date night special. Service was also excellent; very professional staff, even willing to answer our questions about the history of the place and giving us a relevant book to browse. We also really enjoyed the live music with classic songs of Piaf and others. Our only disappointment was the food. Let’s start with the positive: the duck foie gras and the fresh bread as well as the mocktail I ordered were all delicious! (Though I think, also given its price, the foie gras sharing dish could have benefited from the addition of some kind of jam or dried fruit.) As main dish we ordered one of the signature dishes, the full roasted chicken with potatoes, peas and morels - we had high hopes given its price, but we were very disappointed- chicken was overcooked and hard on the outside and undercooked on the inside, potatoes were not as tender as we would like and generally the taste was mediocre- we only appreciated the morels. Finally, we got the mille feuille which looked nice but we only somewhat liked the cream. If I ever visit again, it will be for a lighter dinner (eg just the foie gras or a salad) and drinks.
Dining at Maxim’s was one of the highlights of our trip to Paris. The Art Nouveau décor, live music, and historic atmosphere make it feel like you’ve stepped back into the golden age of Paris. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and worthy of the restaurant’s legendary reputation. My wife has celiac disease, and the staff did an outstanding job accommodating her dietary needs. They provided a detailed allergen menu and took extra precautions to avoid cross-contamination, which gave us a great deal of confidence and allowed us to fully enjoy the evening. Service was occasionally a bit slow, but the overall experience, ambiance, and attention to detail more than made up for it. If you’re looking for a classic Paris dining experience with a touch of old-world glamour, Maxim’s is absolutely worth a visit.
PARISIAN HISTORY + AMAZING FOOD + AMAZING SERVICE (ZOE) = PERFECT DINNER IN PARIS. It took us a bit to get the reservation we wanted for an upcoming trip to Paris, but it was well worth the effort. We were not sure what to expect at the recently renovated Maxim’s, but we wanted to dine in a piece of Parisian history and we were NOT DISAPPOINTED! Our expectations were exceeded -- starting with the gracious greeting at the front door then we were led the beautiful dining room that has the perfectly restored ceiling that you must see, and my picture does not do full justice to. We were there on a Saturday evening for a 7pm seating and at 815pm a wonderful jazz quartet played everything from Bill Withers to old French jazz standards and everything in between. The acoustics are a bit loud, but everyone was having a great time and the place was sold out which was to be expected. The wine list was extensive, and everyone would find something they love but my favorite was a cocktail called the “Champs Elysees” that included Cognac, Chartreus Vert, lemon juice, touch of sugar and angostura bitters. So smooth but packs a punch, especially when you are wearing heels like I was LOL. The Spaghettini Caviar was my absolute favorite Entrée, and you cannot leave Maxims without trying it. We enjoyed Crepes Suzette for dessert and that is the only training potential feedback I would leave as Zoe had a bit of a problem with the flambee portion, but the final taste was lovely. When we were done with dinner the Bar was so full we could not get in but the Maitre D was so gracious he walked with us next door to Minim’s (same owner) and ensured we had a lovely table to enjoy a cocktail before leaving for the night. All in All a wonderful experience and well worth the money paid. You will not be disappointed and you can just feel the history within the place not to mention the Metro that runs beneath it. All part of the charm of Maxims.
My partner and I visited Maxim’s and had a reservation for the bar. The experience was quite nice – the atmosphere is lovely, the music was pleasant, and the decor is elegant and stylish. We had two cocktails and two glasses of wine, which came to €75 – a bit on the pricey side, in my opinion. Still, it’s a beautiful place and definitely worth a visit.
